Anointing of the Sick

“He summoned the Twelve and began to send them out two by two… They anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them.”

Mark 6:7, 13

“By the sacred anointing of the sick and the prayer of the priests, the whole Church commends those who are ill to the suffering and glorified Lord, that he may raise them up and save them. And indeed she exhorts them to contribute to the good of the People of God by freely uniting themselves to the Passion and death of Christ.”

The sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick gives strength and support to anyone struggling with an illness. The healing that occurs in this sacrament of anointing is not necessarily physical healing. While we believe that physical healing can occur through the great power of God, the grace that is infused through this special sacrament is the reminder of the eternal presence of God in our human suffering.

The Sacrament of the Anointing is offered at all the Masses one weekend during the Spring and again in the Fall. For the dates of these Masses, please call the parish office.

Individual anointing is always available by calling the parish office. If you are aware of anyone seriously ill, at home or in the hospital, or who may be anticipating a serious surgery, you are urged to call the office as soon as possible.

God of all consolation,
you chose and sent your Son to heal the world.
Graciously listen to our prayer of faith:
Send the power of your Holy Spirit, the Consoler,
into this precious oil, this soothing ointment,
this rich gift, this fruit of the earth.

Make this oil a remedy for all
who are anointed with it;
heal them in body, soul, and in spirit,
and deliver them from every affliction.
