Children’s Liturgy of the Word

Children’s Liturgy of the Word Takes Place During the 11:00 AM Mass. This program runs September through April.

The purpose of  Children’s Liturgy of the Word is twofold: to form children in a quality liturgical experience and to facilitate the proclamation of Scripture into the child’s life.  The celebrations of these liturgies are intended to form children in the liturgical language of the church, to nourish and guide their spiritual growth, and to immerse them in the Word in ways that are understandable to them.

We welcome first through fifth grade children who are prepared to participate in formal worship. Younger children are encouraged to attend Nursery Program or Sunday School. There is no registration and no fee!  The children simply come up front when Father calls them.

The children gather with their parents until the pastor gives the invitation for the children to come forward. They will process to their separate place of worship. They come back to sit with their families at offertory.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word is an opportunity for our young disciples to grow in their appreciation of scripture, but it is not a substitute for faith formation. For more information on Children’s Liturgy of the Word and Elementary Faith Formation, see below.

Additional Children’s Liturgy of the Word Resources

The Word Among Us

The Word Among Us magazine offers daily meditations based on the Mass readings of the Catholic Church, inspirational essays, stories of the saints and more! Each issue of the printed version of the devotional is currently read by more than 500,000 people world-wide.

The Word Among Us is intended more as a resource for subscribers of their magazine but will allow you to read a limited number of devotional commentaries for about a week ahead.

Sunday Connection

God speaks to us in many ways, including through the Sunday Scripture readings. The Sunday Connection provides useful background and activities to better understand the upcoming Sunday’s Scripture readings, helping you to connect the Scripture to daily life in a meaningful way.

This is one of our favorites because you can read the different grade levels and if you have a creative side, it provides ideas for that style of teaching. It also provides good contextual background on the Gospel Reading.

 Word Sunday

Word Sunday provides resources for all Sunday and most holy day readings, gospel commentaries for the daily readings, family activities, and catechism studies for elementary aged children.  Includes an online video presentation.

Living Faith – Daily Catholic Devotionals

Living Faith provides brief daily Catholic devotions based on one of the Mass readings of the day. Published new each quarter, these reflections are written by women and men from a variety of backgrounds – lay people as well as clergy and religious. Living Faith writers include such well-known Catholic authors as Amy Welborn, Sr. Joyce Rupp and Msgr. Stephen Rossetti.

Online content only becomes available on the current day, but you can search for past devotionals.

Adorers of the Blood of Christ

Each week, Adorers of the Blood of Christ offers updated readings and Psalm responses taken from the Lectionary for Masses with Children, complemented by prayer, reflection, discussion questions and activities. Please feel free to download these and use them however you wish. These lessons are created by Adorer-theologians using the lens of the spirituality of St. Maria DeMattias. This spirituality is all about compassion, hope and hospitality. While this is the starting point for the lessons, you are invited to approach them however the Spirit moves you.

Three weeks worth of materials available at a time in pdf format: Upcoming Sunday and then the following two Sundays.  You must download the file and read with Acrobat Reader software or print.
